Creatively Healthy Edible Art Smoothie Bowls
Creatively healthy edible art smoothie bowls are my favorite morning treat! Healthy food that tastes good AND is aesthetically pleasing is a fairly difficult task to achieve, however, I believe, I figured it out.
#1) Most Important! Make the food look attractive. Color is key. Especially with Smoothie bowls. If someone were to hand me a brown bowl of mush, there will be no way I would try it with out knowing every ingredient, or If someone trustworthy made it. Now if the smoothie bowl was a bright vibrant color ( achieved by adding REAL food, not food coloring), maybe with some sprinkles of chia seeds or coconut flakes, and some berries organized on top, I would be willing to dig in. I don’t know about you, but if food looks good, it will most likely taste good!
So add some organic beets which are rich in pigment, frozen acai- dark purple and vibrant, dragon fruit powder -pink, matcha powder -green, butterfly pea flowers- blue, spirulina- dark green, etc and achieve a colorful bowl!
(I added some of these colorful healthy additions to the carousel below available for purchase!)
#2)Taste. When it comes to smoothie bowls, they can taste chalky and bland. The culprit is usually based on the shake mix or protein powder used. Usually these mixes are gritty without flavor, or contain a ridiculous amount of added sugars or artificial sweeteners. But a year ago, I found one brand that blends with ease and masks the taste of almost any ingredient. Who would ever add mushrooms to their smoothies? Me!! or Broccoli? Who has kids or a spouse that wont eat these nutrient rich and in my opinion essential veggies? Well, throw these forbidden veggies into a Ninja Blender with my favorite shake mix “protein powder” and you may get a very positive reaction to fruits, veggies, seeds, nuts, etc that they usually wont touch due to not liking the taste!
The Shake mix not only blends with ease, it is the base for all of my smoothie bowls. For more information about the protein powder I use for my smoothie bowls, click on the “complete” banner to the right or below this blog!
